Wellness Island

September 2008 Update

Wellness Island opened on February 14, 2007, with a focus on mental health - including body, mind, and spirit. Wellness Island is the home of The Counseling Center , and develops information and resources on mental health, disability awareness, and diversity. Our Wellness Directory, free of charge to residents and those listed, provides information on in-world and RL services.

The island is open to the public occasionally for special events and other gatherings, but we generally limit public access to allow us, our clients, and staff to focus on provision of services and materials development. Our Mainland Annex Office is always open, and has all the basic info on our services and projects.

**NEWS!**

Everyone is welcome to join the Mental Health Network in-world to receive automatic updates on our activities, as well as to keep in touch with others interested in mental health in Second Life®. We also sponsor the Medical Ethics group. Both are free of charge and can be found in Search in-world.

In January 2008 we began the publication of WELLNESS magazine, available free of charge in-world or online at www.slwellness.com. Issues are available to pick up and read within Second Life®, or to download from the website. We are currently on hiatus as we develop our blog and complete other publications, but all previous issues are still available to you.

Our focus is on the development of in-world mental health resources and materials, support groups, and provision of consulting services. We offer counseling services to Second Life® residents, and we provide a confidential, professional setting for your sessions.

We offer a growing library of information about mental and emotional health, along with resources on disability awareness and more. Our interactive bookshelves and materials can be found on Wellness Island and also on our mainland annex Center, open to the public 24/7.

Wellness Island is a privately owned, not-for-profit project, and is funded by proceeds from The Counseling Center, as well as resident donations - 100% of which go to support the work of Wellness Island. We are currently seeking grant funding to be able to provide more resources and assistance to Second Life® residents for many years to come.
